Social media makes us social, not lonely.

Zeynep Tufecki’s article in the Atlantic is a great antidote to the “social media is making us lonely” shouts. What is lovely is that she also cites research on social media (as she is a social media researcher). As she says, people do not talk to bots. They talk to people! We want to talk to people! Social networks is a great way to reach out.

There is some psychology behind this “oh, the new media will be the downfall of humanity” (I’m not the first to observe this, of course, but why on earth does humanity not learn? Wasn’t that the driver behind Don Quixote?).
